Revolved Triangle Pose
Parivrtta Trikonasana

Deepen your practice with this challenging standing twist that improves balance, detoxifies the body, and strengthens the legs.
Revolved Triangle Pose, or Parivrtta Trikonasana in Sanskrit, is the twisted variation of Triangle Pose. It combines balance, strength, and a deep spinal twist, making it one of the more challenging standing poses.
How to Perform
- Start in Mountain Pose: Step your left foot back about 3 feet. Your right foot points forward; your left foot turns in about 45 degrees. Square your hips toward the front of your mat.
- Inhale and Lengthen: Raise your arms overhead and lengthen your spine.
- Exhale and Fold: Hinge at your hips and bring your torso forward over your right leg. Place your left hand on the floor or a block outside your right foot.
- Twist: On an inhale, rotate your torso to the right, reaching your right arm straight up toward the ceiling. Stack your right shoulder over your left.
- Align Your Hips: Keep both hips level and squared to the front. Draw your right hip back as your left hip draws forward.
- Gaze Upward: If your balance and neck allow, turn your gaze up to your right fingertips.
- Hold for 5-8 breaths, deepening the twist with each exhale while maintaining length in your spine on each inhale.
- Release: Unwind the twist, bring both hands to the floor, and step forward. Repeat on the other side.

Twists in yoga are often associated with releasing what no longer serves us — a perfect theme for autumn.
